Matt and Michelle Barrow – Hope in Africa

UK & Uganda

Matt and Michelle are a delightful and  personable couple. First visiting  East Africa in 1990 their call crystallized in Kenya when they began working with street children. In 1999 they formed  Child2Child, a project dedicated to improving the lives of young street boys.

Travelling regularly between the UK and Kenya was insufficient to meet the growing needs, so in 2012 they moved to Nakuru, Kenya. Unofficially adopting nine street boys, they taught them practical and life skills, helped them through their education and have seen them grow into young men, making their way in Kenyan society.

In 2017 Matt and Michelle returned to the UK, but have visited Kenya several times. At heart Matt is a builder, and wherever he goes it doesn’t take too long before a building project starts.

When a director of a charity working with schools in Uganda and Malawi needed to retire, Matt and Michelle seemed the ideal candidates to step in. This they did, renaming the  charity “Hope in Africa.” The charity particularly supports five African visionaries in education. Hope has now increased the number of schools and has added  a rehabilitation project. The work also extends into Malawi.

Michelle is responsible for the accounts for the charity. She is also treasurer for their church in Worthing, where Matt and Michelle recently took on the leadership. Michelle also works in Sunday school and is beginning to reach out to special needs adults.

They are a dedicated and happy couple who have found their niche. They are a joy to support and we thank God for them.
