The wellbeing and healthy development of children is at the heart of God’s calling for Mim.
Knowing that a billion children every year experience abuse, Mim says ‘This should not be!’ My life’s calling is to fight for their lives! I am living out what my name means: to be a protector (Miriam) and life-giver (Evelyn) so that children are safe, thriving, and learning, living life in all its fulness, learning to love God and others.’
Having her career as a Geography teacher in the UK, Mim moved to live and work in Uganda in September 2006. Over the past two decades, she has worked with Ugandans to transform the lives of tens of thousands of children in Uganda by teaching them how to stay safe, helping them get back to school, and ensuring justice is won for children.
In the next phase that is unfolding for her, Mim will be working with Ugandans to design learning and play activities that help children overcome trauma – and with a world full of trauma, this is needed more than ever!
She will be coaching others as they co-design and deliver high quality, affordable training as well as writing materials that help explain what works in changing children’s lives.
Another major step will be to drive the development of CRANE’s social enterprises at its school, which will made into training centre, and its farm that we will become a therapeutic play space.
Many of you have got to know Mim through the Prayer Prompts we regularly issue.
It is a joy for us to welcome her into the Avail family.
