Alan, a trained teacher, lives and works in Romania where he has been teaching since 1997, with one year in Moldova. He is originally from the Smethwick area of Birmingham where his mission-minded supporting church took teams to Europe to work with local churches, offering practical support as well as doing Bible teaching and evangelism. Alan can trace God’s calling to live in Eastern Europe from the inspiration gained from these team trips to Romania and neighbouring countries.
For most of the years Alan has been in Romania. He has worked mainly as a one-to-one English language teacher in Bucharest, although he also teaches the scriptures. This has given him many opportunities to witness to his students.
Alan has a twinkle in his eye, a winning dry humour, patience with his students and a love for God.
He is well connected with various churches and enjoys opportunities to talk with pastors and church leaders with whom he has made good friends. Since the outbreak of war in Ukraine he has twice had the challenging but exciting opportunity to go with Romanian teams taking aid to Ukraine via Moldova and has committed to two annual visits. No doubt further opportunities will come his way when peace returns in Ukraine. Who knows what the Lord has in store for him as Bulgaria, Serbia and Hungary are neighbouring countries? He might even get the chance to take a holiday on the shores of the Black Sea!
Recently a new opportunity has arisen to work with a friend in opening a Christian coffee shop/bar in Bucharest.
