Barbara Maycock

UK & Thailand

Barbara took early retirement from teaching and set out on a journey with the privilege and luxury of being able to go wherever God directed her path. All her family members were settled and had financial security. So off she went and has never looked back!

Barbara comes from a farming background in rural mid-Wales and, after graduating from Reading, she lived and worked in this beautiful area for 40 years, balancing family responsibilities with the desire to work abroad in God’s mission field.

Her first adventure began in China with many valuable lessons learnt. Working alongside an amazing linguist, her TEFL training was developed in practical ways, for which she has been very grateful.

For several years Barbara volunteered with a Christian ministry, teaching daily in a nursery for marginalized children in Pattaya, Thailand. She found it amazing how she was welcomed and respected.

She moved on to help in Tamar Guest House, a service founded by Marj Garrean from USA who has worked for many years in Asia helping trafficked women and bar workers. The project helped under forty-year-old sex workers from the bars to be maids and receptionists.

Seeing the great need to help women over 40, in 2026 Marj set up a new work in the city called Miriam’s Hope and was delighted that Barbara could join the team.

Miriam’s Hope aims to ensure that all individuals they meets know that they have encountered Jesus.

Pray for Barbara and this God-initiated venture of compassion and hope.
