Jacob and Elia

Japan

Jacob and Elia are from the UK and USA and have been serving in Japan since 2022. Their work focuses on two key areas: pastoral care for overseas workers and discipleship making in small group settings.

They are part of a new pastoral care team which serves nearly 150 members across Japan. Though still in its early stages, the team has already hosted several online seminars on a variety of topics, is building trust with team leaders, and is actively gathering resources to make care more accessible to those who need it.

Their work involves local evangelism and, when opportunities arise, equipping both local believers and foreign workers to intentionally reach their neighbours and start simple church gatherings. A significant breakthrough came through a “person of peace” they met while doing outreach – this relationship has led to a biweekly English club hosted in his home, where they have been able to share the gospel widely within his community for over a year.

In autumn of 2025, they are moving to a small town in Northern Japan. They’ve been praying about this move since 2020 and are now joining a team focused on hospitality through Acts-like community. The work involves hosting short-term teams and regular community events out of two buildings. Adding to the team’s existing strengths of worship, hospitality and teaching, Jacob and Elia hope to bring pastoral care and evangelism into the mix, while also growing personally in hospitality.

“Therefore, in the east give glory to the LORD – in the coastlands of the sea”   (Isaiah 24:15)
