Roger and Helen pastor Cornerstone West London, a fellowship of two Baptist Churches in West Drayton, Borough of Hillingdon. Hillingdon has the highest concentration of asylum seekers in London, and London has the highest concentration of asylum seekers in the UK.
During Covid, an Iranian refugee couple who had been helping and evangelising their fellow countrymen stumbled across Cornerstone church and began bringing others with them. Over a hundred Iranian people have since been baptised, some staying in West Drayton but many finding new places to worship as they have spread over the UK.
It is amazing how God has worked from little beginnings in a most unexpected way.
Recognising the Lord’s hand, Roger and Helen have seized the moment by hosting a weekly online Bible study in which the teaching is translated into Farsi for the benefit of the many scattered Iranian friends around the UK and further afield. It is a joy to worship together and hear them pray and share. The teaching is shared jointly with Tom Patkai.
Who knows how long this season, this window of opportunity, will last?
Roger also works voluntarily as a Bible teacher on an occasional basis for a London based mission organisation, named ‘K180’. This Christian charity conducts extensive courses targeted at young people throughout Europe, and Roger has recently been helping them in Armenia and Georgia, as well as in the UK.
Roger and Helen intend to retire from a pastoral position in the foreseeable future but hope to continue with mission work particularly focussing on Iranian nationals as well as other friends overseas.
